Foreclosure Counseling

A pending foreclosure can be scary and confusing.

CPAH’s HUD-Certified Housing Counselors provide free, objective and personalized guidance to assess your situation and help you understand your options.

How we help:

Whether you want to keep your home or move on, CPAH’s Housing Counselors have the knowledge and experience to help you understand your specific case and the options that are available to you.

We can help you work with your lender, the courts, enroll in mediation, and/or connect you with financial assistance programs and other resources. Where appropriate, we’ll guide you in gathering all of the necessary paperwork and we can submit a loan modification packet to your lender.

There are no charges for our service.

Please note, if you plan to enroll in the Lake County Residential Foreclosure Mediation Program, you must adhere to certain time frames. Failure to do so will result in forfeiting your right to participate in mediation.

How to get started:

  1. Call our Intake Coordinator at 847.263.7478 ext 15 to schedule a counseling appointment.
  2. After scheduling an appointment, please view the presentation, “Preparing a Loan Workout Packet Video,” (17 minutes) (English | Spanish)which explains how to complete and submit the paperwork that lenders require to consider a resolution in your case. We recommend that you watch this video in its entirety first to better understand all of the different documents you will need and how they interact with each other, and then return to the video later if you need to refresh your memory as you begin collecting the required documents and filling out different forms.
  3. Begin preparing your Intake Packet (English | Spanish). You must submit a complete Intake Packet at least 3 days prior to your scheduled counseling session.  You will be informed if any items are missing.  Missing items must be turned in prior to your counseling session or your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
